Our school’s pedagogy reflects the overarching principles and approach to learning outlined in the Sydney Catholic Schools’ Statement on Authentic Learning. By connecting to the real world of students’ lives, authentic learning enables students to become lifelong learners who contribute to society and the wider world as active and discerning citizens. Authentic learning is central to our work as Catholic educators because it promotes the continual growth and wellbeing of the whole person — spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.

The support the college provides in catering for students with diverse learning needs is a true reflection of the spirit of the college. Support is provided on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and in the mainstream classroom. The Learning Support program incorporates a variety of strategies in meeting the needs of our students and improving their academic, vocational and social outcomes.

The mission of the Learning Centre is focused on fostering core values of performance and improvement that engender achievement and learning for everyone. Positive beliefs and assumptions about the potential of students to learn and grow leads to high expectations for all students. Together we work toward a caring, safe and stimulating learning environment.

We assist in providing individual programs tailored to meet the needs of our students. Students learn best when instruction embraces their interests and engages them as active participants. We endeavour to provide students with the skills to help them become confident, capable members of our society. Finding each person’s area of strength is the key to success. Support is provided on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and in the mainstream classroom. Students are able to access special provisions and work experience through the Learning Centre. These programs are a vital resource that ensure students have the opportunity to demonstrate their full potential and maximise their opportunities for the future. The math tutorial program is a valuable and integral part of the service that supports and encourages students to improve their skills in mathematics.

The Learning Centre offers all these programs and they run simultaneously with new initiatives included daily. This is the nature of a dynamic and resourceful department eager to assist our students to develop their educational and social skills and enable them to take their place in the post school world with confidence, skills and determination.

It is a privilege to be part of their journey.
